BC Ferries, Victoria BC ferries
Victoria BC Ferries

There are six ferry companies connecting Victoria to the mainland though only the first three listed transport cars. Your choice will be dictated also by your destination and by the frequency of the ferry services. For most of our guests the Victoria BC Ferries route from Tsawwassen south of Vancouver BC to Swartz Bay north of Victoria is most appropriate, whether travelling to Canada or USA due to the greater number of daily crossings.

All ferries accept advance reservations, online or by telephone. Wait times vary, affected by USA immigration procedures which are conducted here. Terminals for the last four listed are downtown, on Belleville Street, 20 minutes from here. A useful web site for all ferries is www.ferrytravel.com. See our ferries maps.

BC Ferries – to Tsawwassen, south of Vancouver BC.
1-888 724-5223.
Car ferry. The nearest terminal is at Swartz Bay, at the north end of Hwy 17, 25 minutes from Gazebo Bed and Breakfast, Victoria BC. Ferries also cross between north Vancouver, BC and Nanaimo. Both routes are 95 minutes crossing time.Significantly, they have departures every hour in the summer (up to 17 a day). If you miss one it is not a problem unless you have a flight deadline. The highway south to/from Seattle is a fast one. These ferries also transport Pacific Coach Lines between Victoria and Vancouver airport and downtown (1-800 661-1725).

Washington State Ferries – to Anacortes & Friday Harbor.
1-888 808-7977.
Car ferry. The local terminal is at Sidney, 20 minutes from our B&B. Reservations are required, at least 24 hours in advance. There are two daily crossings to Anacortes but only one to Friday Harbor. You need to park in line 90 minutes before departure.

M.V. Coho – to Port Angeles.
1-250 386-2202.
Car ferry. Reservations are accepted if over 24 hours in advance. 90 minute crossing time. A maximum of four crossings in summer, two in winter. You need to park in line 90 minutes in advance.

Victoria Clipper – to Seattle.
1-800 888-2535.
Passengers only. Three crossings in summer, one in winter. 165 minute crossing time.

Victoria Express – to Port Angles & Friday Harbor.
1-800 633 1578.
Passengers only. To Port Angeles: three crossings in summer, two in winter. To Friday Harbor: one crossing in summer only.

Victoria Star – to Bellingham.
1-800 443-4552.
Passengers only. One crossing in summer only. 180 minute crossing time.

The local bus service, www.bctransit.com, (1-250 282-6161) does not serve our road so we recommend a car be rented for mazimum vacation flexibility. However we can pick you up at the Royal Oak Exchange from a bus from:
- the airport (route 75),
- from BC Ferries Swartz Bay terminal (route 70),
- from Washington State ferries (route 70),
- from downtown including the Clipper and Coho ferries (routes 30 or 31).
